Memorias de África, Kenia & Tanzania

With this trip to Kenya and Tanzania, you will have the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Africa and see some of the world's most majestic animals up close in their natural habitat. Both countries are famous for their impressive national parks, which offer a wide variety of species such as lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos, as well as other animals like zebras, giraffes, antelopes, hippos, and crocodiles.

Few places present nature as majestically as Kenya and Tanzania. Both countries are the setting for the Great Migration and home to the 'Big Five.' The Masai Mara, Amboseli, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater are iconic places on the entire African continent, and among the best parks for a safari.

With Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop, we will find lush natural landscapes dotted with immense herds of zebras and wildebeest, wild predators, and endangered animals that coexist with various tribes like the Maasai, Swahili, and Turkana, adding color and soul to the land.

The Memories of Africa tour covers Kenya and Tanzania and represents a unique opportunity to visit the best parks in both countries in one trip, offering unforgettable safari experiences!

Itinerary

Nairobi (arrival)

Arrival at Nairobi International Airport. Once immigration procedures and baggage collection are completed, we will meet our Spanish-speaking guide who will be waiting for us. Transfer to the hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free. Depending on the arrival time of the international flight, we will have some free time to rest or the possibility to add an excursion or visit. Nairobi is the fourth largest city in Africa and is also the most cosmopolitan in East Africa. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safaris through Kenya. It is a vibrant and exciting place where you can find varied activities and a lively nightlife. The National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum, and the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust are very popular attractions that are well worth a visit.

Day 2

Nairobi - Masai Mara

Breakfast at the hotel. Early in the morning, we will head towards the Masai Mara National Reserve (approximately 5.5 hours). On the way, we will make a brief stop at a viewpoint where we can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Great Rift Valley. We will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will go on a photographic safari in Kenya's most famous park. The Masai Mara, together with Tanzania's Serengeti, forms Africa's most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. Its greatest attraction is, undoubtedly, the annual wildebeest migration that crosses the vast plains of the Serengeti and Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of terrestrial mammals on the planet, with over a million animals constantly moving in search of water and fresh grass. In the reserve, you can also see the 'Big Five': lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo, along with other species like giraffes, gazelles, and more. Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.

Day 3

Masai Mara

A full day of safari, with the option to go on a safari at dawn and dusk and return to the lodge for lunch, or take a picnic lunch and spend the entire day on safari. ****************** Optional activity: Balloon flight in Masai Mara (activity with supplement, consult with your Travel Planner). ****************** Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.

Day 4

Masai Mara - Naivasha Lake

Breakfast at the lodge. Next, we will head towards Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a boat ride on the lake. Lake Naivasha is the highest of the Rift Valley lakes. It is surrounded by papyrus trees and acacias, a unique geological landscape visited by a wide variety of over 450 bird species. It is a natural watering hole frequented by zebras, hippos, and buffaloes, among many others. The rest of the afternoon is free at your disposal with the possibility of engaging in other activities. We recommend combining the boat ride with a walk on Crescent Island (not included, direct payment). Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.

Day 5

Naivasha Lake - Amboseli

Breakfast at the lodge. Next, we will head towards Nairobi via the Nairobi/Mombasa road (a 2-hour drive), then turn west towards Mount Kilimanjaro. We will pass through the typical African savannah dotted with local farms and colorful Maasai shepherds with their cattle. We will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. At 3:30 PM, we will set out again for our first photographic safari in Amboseli National Park, famous for its large herds of elephants. The Amboseli National Park ecosystem spans over 3,000 km² in the southern part of Kenya. There is no other place in Africa where one can find the curious combination of topography, geological history, hydrology, and culture of Amboseli. Despite its moderate rainfall, it has a system of marshes and groundwater fed by Mount Kilimanjaro, which sustains the life of a spectacular variety of birds and mammals. Amboseli is one of Kenya's most popular destinations and is home to the country's largest elephant population, as well as buffaloes, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and hippos. Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.

Day 6

Amboseli - Namanga - Arusha - Tarangire

Early breakfast and departure for a short photographic safari in Amboseli. Sunrises are special in Amboseli, as it is the best time to capture views of Mount Kilimanjaro! Mid-morning, we will leave the park and head towards the Namanga border. After customs and immigration formalities, we will change vehicles and continue towards Arusha. Lunch at the Four Points by Sheraton Arusha hotel. At 2:00 PM, departure for Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant population. Upon arrival, we will go on a photographic safari through the park. After the safari, we will head to our accommodation. Tarangire National Park is located within the spectacular Manyara region. This impressive national park encompasses a diversity of landscapes, including granite ridges, river valleys, mixed vegetative landscapes, and wild wildlife. During the annual dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, impala, and gazelles gather in this area, and it is not surprising that some predators follow in their footsteps. This vast area is also known for its spectacular baobab trees, stunning views of the Masai steppe, and the beautiful mountains to the south. Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.

Day 7

Tarangire - Serengeti

Breakfast at the lodge. Next, we will go on a safari in Tarangire National Park before heading to Serengeti National Park. On the way, we will have a picnic lunch. Upon arrival in the Serengeti, we will enjoy a safari where we will encounter a great diversity of animals. Once the safari is finished, we will head to our accommodation. The Seronera region, in the center of the Serengeti, is one of the key locations on the Great Migration route. It becomes an exceptional place to witness nature in its purest form. During the Great Migration, countless wildebeests flood the plains while migratory game populations fluctuate seasonally. Seronera remains an interesting wildlife hotspot throughout the year, as it is home to the Big Five (lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and leopards) among many other species. Dinner and accommodation at the camp.

Day 8

Serengeti

Breakfast at the lodge and a full day dedicated to safari in the Serengeti. You can choose between a sunrise safari and a sunset safari, with a return to the lodge for lunch, or a full-day safari with a picnic lunch. Serengeti Park, the oldest in Tanzania, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. Famous for appearing in numerous documentaries, it is home to the renowned Big Five, but it is also famous for its black-maned lions. Its greatest natural spectacle is undoubtedly the Great Migration, when more than a million wildebeest and nearly 200,000 zebras head south in search of new pastures created by the rains, every October and November. They then head north after the long rains of April, May, and June. From a geological perspective, the kopjes, rock formations created before the beginning of life on earth and visible throughout the park, are a must-see attraction: rocks that rise out of nowhere in the middle of the savannah and often serve as a refuge for lions. Optional activity, with an extra charge: a 1-hour hot air balloon safari, ending with a champagne breakfast on the savannah. Dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
9
Day 9

Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater - Karatu

Very early breakfast at the camp. Next, we will head to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend to the crater floor for a safari inside. The safari will last all day, and we will enjoy a picnic lunch. Located in northern Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Crater is known for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. It has become one of the most popular safari destinations in Africa. Surrounded by the highlands of Tanzania, this crater is said to be the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. Visitors can see the renowned Big Five and many other species of wildlife, including large herds of zebra and wildebeest. In the afternoon, departure to the Karatu area for dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
10
Day 10

Karatu - Arusha

Breakfast at the lodge. At the indicated time, transfer to the airport for your connecting flight to the next destination or return home. The road trip takes about 4 hours. Arrival in Arusha is expected at approximately 12:30 PM.
